A local independent food bank supporting anyone in Holbeach, Fleet, Whaplode, Moulton villages and the many outlying villages. Our aim is to prevent or relieve poverty in our local area by providing food parcels, grants and other items. We also signpost our clients to other sources of support. Most recently we have been responsible for allocating Government funding for struggling households and so we work very closely with our local schools to ensure we target the most needy families.
Holbeach Community Larder was formed in 2013 by a group of volunteers who wanted to help people who were struggling to feed themselves and their families. It was later registered as a charity.
People who find themselves in crisis, without food or money to buy food, are welcome to drop into any of our Food Bank sessions:
Every Wednesday 10.00 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Every Thursday 10.00 a.m. until noon.
We also operate an emergency out of hours service which can be reached by calling: 07859 905903
In exceptional circumstances, delivery can be arranged for those with medical conditions that leave them housebound or where a request has come from a specific agency.
We now operate a Community Store where members are able to shop at heavily discounted prices. Low cost annual membership will initially be available to a maximum of 100 people who will be issued with a membership card and will then be able to use it at the Store for a fixed price monthly shop.
If the Store proves successful and we have sufficient resources (particularly volunteers) then we will look to open it up to as many members as possible. We are aware that there are a lot of local people who need help but miss out, especially older people.
For information on how to become a member call in during our opening hours or email info@holbeachcommunitylarder.org.uk
Holbeach Community Larder rely on working closely with other organisations. In addition to our referral partners who act in the interests of individual clients we also work with many other organisations.
Working together with Neighbourly has meant that we receive regular donations of excess food from Marks & Spencer, Lidl and Aldi. We take their excess bread, cakes, vegetables and other perishable goods along with other local organisations in the area, ensuring that we help to reduce the amount of food waste. They have also provided financial help for specific projects, such as upgrading the kitchen we use and provided volunteer help.
Our local Tesco store in Holbeach has continued to support this project over a number of years through donations of food and by providing a bin where local people can donate food. They have also provided financial help in the form of grants, particularly during the pandemic.
As an independent food bank, it is important that we have a voice when large organisations such as Fareshare make decisions. IFAN represents more than 800 independent food banks in the UK.
